Alternative Summer Break (ASuB): A New Addition to the Alternative Break Programs

Alternative Summer Break (ASuB) is a community service organization governed by students with a common vision to volunteer, unite and to provide solutions for social injustices by combining local, national and international service. ASuB is a branch of the Break Away-The Alternative Break Connection that ASB and AWB are also part of-we are all one big family. The idea for ASuB came after a student, Fatmata Daramy, participated in ASB and thought that a Summer Alternative Break would be great. Together with the Office of the Active Citizenship and Service and a group of other students, Inyang Isong, Nneka Jon-Ubabuco and Monica Yang, ASuB came into its making. In its first year, ASuB will have two sites to Louisiana and
Florida for a week from May 12-19, 2007
.  In New Orleans, Louisiana, we will work with Habitat for Humanity at the St. Bernard Parish to rebuild homes of the disabled and elderly and in Kissimmee, Florida we will work with Give Kids The World, a non-profit organization that exists only to fulfill the wishes of all children with life-threatening illnesses from around the world to experience a memorable, joyful, cost-free visit to Central Florida attractions with their families. Participant applications are now out and available at the CPH and all reeve desks around campus and are due on Friday, February 16th by 5pm in the CPH. For more information please check out our website at www.vanderbilt.edu/asub.
