London calling…and blogger answering

I’m a little late posting these pictures, but better late than never, right? My friend Todd and I took a quick weekend jaunt across the Irish Sea to the United Kingdom and London.

Strike, strike baby

So yesterday, most of the Irish civil service, including professors at this university, went on a one-day strike in protest of their expected pay cut.

Biggest threat to drunk Irish student: No TV, US visa!

So I got an e-mail from the president of NUIG, addressed to the whole student body, to talk about “anti-social behaviour.” While that term usually mea

Cork, jazz and a bit of blarney

I suppose it’s fitting on this Halloween night in for me to update everyone on my trip last weekend to Cork for the Cork Jazz Festival.

American guy visits Versailles

If you’ll pardon the lame rhyming headline, I’ll tell you a bit about my side trip to Versailles a couple weeks ago.

Blogger enjoys Paris, merci beaucoup

Got back today from a trip to Cork--more on that in another post. I do need to update everyone still reading this blog about my trip last weekend to Paris.

Blogger meets living relatives in Ireland

So the last two weeks have been a bit hectic for me. Lots of assignments at school (yes, I do go to class now and then) plus a trip to Paris last weekend are my excuses for my lack of blogging.

Ireland decides on Lisbon today

Today’s voting day here in the Republic. The rest of Europe will be watching this Lisbon Treaty referendum very closely.

Awesome cliff sites amaze blogger

I mentioned in my first post on my weekend trip that my most awesome experience in Ireland so far happened on Inishmore. The place was Dún Aengus, an ancient fort built by the Celtic people who inhabited the island thousands of years ago. We rode our bikes up to the base of the site, but we had to walk up to the top. It wasn't a bad walk at all, but since I wasn't entirely sure what we were going to see, it seemed a bit excessive at the time. We ran into some people from our group on the way up, who said it was absolutely amazing, so that got me a little excited.

Unmatched beauty with fish and chips: A weekend at the Aran Islands

I spent most of Saturday and Sunday on the Aran Islands; more specifically, on the largest of the Galway Bay islands, Inishmore (known locally by its more proper name, Árainn). It was a great weekend with beautiful sights, great craic, and hanging out with many of the American friends I've made so far.
