VUceptors announced for 2009, more than ever applied

After a two-step application process, the VUceptors for the Class of 2013 were announced Friday night and Saturday morning.

Roughly 400 students applied to be VUceptors this year, a 10 percent increase from last year when approximately 360 students applied. Of the applicants, about half received interviews and 92 students were accepted - 27 from the Class of 2010, 27 from the Class of 2011 and 38 from the Class of 2012.

The IMPACT of diplomacy

Diplomacy can mean different things in different regions of the world, as evidenced by the two speakers at this year's IMPACT Symposium.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Israeli legislator Natan Sharansky spoke at the two-day event, organized by the Vanderbilt Programming Board's Speakers Committee, where they each addressed "Diplomacy in the New Millennium.

IMPACT: Albright outlines diplomacy in the age of Obama

It's "an art, not a science."

That is how former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright described diplomacy to the sold out crowd in Langford Auditorium Tuesday night.

The first speaker of the 45th annual IMPACT Symposium, Albright addressed "Diplomacy in the New Millenium," the theme of the two-day series presented by the Vanderbilt Programming Board's Speakers Committee.

Vanderbilt program to make appearance on History Channel

The Vanderbilt Research Program in Guatemala is attracting national media attention after being featured on an episode of the History Channel's series "Warriors."

Each episode of "Warriors," hosted by Terry Schappert, examines the rituals, technology and strategies of a different warrior group, including the Spartans, Vikings and Samurai.
