Turning a lackadaisical Saturday evening into a rabble-rousin' good time, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears emerged triumphant in the quest to entertain.
Hitting the stage like venue veterans, the fledgling group brought an unyielding enthusiasm largely unrivaled during the performances at Rites of Spring, even among the headliners.
In a long-thought-gone move stolen straight out of the annals of Motown, the sax players effortlessly two-stepped to the beat; the well-dressed drummer slammed his heart and soul into his set; Black Joe ripped melodies out of his harmonica as if it were the end of days. After hearing the Honeybears, that would've been just fine.
