Okkervil River performed a concise set of their best songs on Friday night at Rites. Coming out at dusk, they ushered in the evening with favorites from their past three albums. Will Sheff and company churned out a solid performance that showed the audience the different facets of the band's music from its melancholy to its galloping rock. Especially good was their rendition of "John Allyn Smith Sails," including a reworking of the Beach Boys masterpiece "Sloop John B" — a performance definitely worth seeing again.
