Jon Curran

Senior Jon Curran finished his Commodore golfing career in style Saturday, firing a 3-under 69 to finish in a tie for third out of 75 players at the NCAA Central Regionals at 2-under overall.

The Vanderbilt team's season ended with a 10th place finish overall at the Regionals in Bowling Green, Ky. at 25-over, as it needed to finish fifth or better to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Curran came just short of attaining that distinction at the individual level as he finished two strokes back of medalist Adam Hill of North Carolina State; the top overall player on a team not in the top 5 advances to nationals. Curran improved every day, shooting a two-over 74 and one-under 71 the first two days before his strongest performance Saturday.

UCLA won the regional with a come-from-behind performance on Saturday to surpass second-place Washington. Ohio State, Georgia Tech and Duke were the other three teams to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Led by Curran, the Commodores shot 290 on Saturday, their best performance of the rainy weekend that saw numerous delays. Sophomores Ryan Haselden and Adam Hofmann both shot a one-over 73. Senior Tyler Matthews also played his final collegiate tournament.

Curran graduated earlier in May with a major in Human and Organizational Development and has expressed interest in playing on the PGA tour once his career at Vanderbilt was over.
