Junior Sarah Downing was named a first-team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Thursday.

Downing (pictured) starred for the Commodores this season with a team-high 55 goals and 81 points in leading them to a berth in the NCAA Tournament, with her three goals in the first-round loss to Notre Dame giving her the scoring record. She became the third Vanderbilt player under head coach Cathy Swezey to be given the high honor, and her 160 career points through three seasons puts her sixth on the all-time list of Commodore lacrosse players.

In addition, seniors Cara Giordano and Alex Mundy were named to the third team, while freshman Ally Carey was nationally recognized on the second team. Giordano closed out her career with 101 goals and was named an All-American all four years, while Mundy played exceptional defense all season in causing 23 turnovers.

The lacrosse team finished with a 10-7 record this season but has not made it out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament the past three seasons. Vanderbilt lost only five seniors to graduation however.
