Former Vanderbilt star Christina Wirth made the final roster of the WNBA's Indiana Fever and the team will have its regular season debut today against the Atlanta Dream.
Wirth, the 19th overall pick in the draft, was one of two rookies to make the team, which has a 34-game schedule that runs into September. She led the Commodores to two Southeastern Conference tournament championships during her time in Nashville, as well as four consecutive berths in the NCAA Tournament.
She was an All-American and All-Conference selection her senior year, as well as a pick for the prestigious All-Senior All-America team by the Lowes Senior CLASS award committee.
She has settled into Indianapolis nicely, although she admits finding the new surroundings a little different compared to her old college town.
"The downtown area is probably bigger than Nashville," Wirth said. "It's not too crowded and I'm not really a huge-city kind of girl so it's a good balance for me."
Jen Risper, the other Commodore taken in this year's draft, did not make the final roster of the Chicago Sky. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association Defensive Player of the Year just missed making the cut after being the 29th overall pick in the draft.
