I'm not sure, but this place could have some connection to the Irish side of my family. The name of the pub is Tigh Neachtain, or Naughton's Pub. It's a hotspot in Galway's city centre for trad, and it's been on this spot since the 19th century. I did a bit of investigating today, but I can't be sure if or how my Naughton family is related to the namesake of this pretty famous place.

It's obviously a matter that needs more investigation, and I plan on doing just that. I'll take some more pictures and find out some of the genealogy behind it. Right now, my assumption is that these are two different or distantly related Naughtons. For one, my family is originally from County Roscommon, and most likely the branch that stayed in Ireland didn't come down to Galway until after Tigh Neachtain was established. Still,  my grandfather's great uncle owned a dry goods store in Galway between 1918 and 1955, not that far from where this pub is located. Also, my grandfather's grandfather owned several bars in Philadelphia, so there's a chance this was some sort of family business.

At any rate, more investigation is needed, which is just what I'm going to do now. Even if I don't learn anything else tonight, I'll certainly enjoy some great trad and a pint or two at Tigh Neachtain.
