Little living rooms have already popped up outside the doors to Sarratt Student Center as students settle in to camp out for tickets to the Jay-Z concert.
Students began to line up at 3 p.m. Monday, bringing with them chairs, blankets, computers, homework, tents and even floor lamps to wait out the night before tickets went on sale Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
“Most of all, it’s an experience to enjoy,” said junior Ravi Singh, who secured his place in line at 8 p.m. “I’ll be a college student only once in my life, so I have to take advantage of things like this while I can.”
Junior Jonathan Louie was the first to get in line, getting to the door at 3 p.m.
“It was kind of awkward (being the first person), but I felt good knowing I would get my ticket first,” he said.
Several of the students said they chose to wait in line 12 hours before ticket sales begin to make sure they could get floor seats for the concert.
“We came because we like Jay-Z and heard there was limited space on the floor,” said sophomore Bianca Gillispie, who got to Sarratt at 8 p.m.
Senior Erica Mills said the floor seats would be sold to both students and general admission, with a limited amount on sale for the student price of $40 per ticket. Tickets in the regular student section in the gym will also be available to students for $40. The remainder of the seats will be sold at different price levels, depending on the quality of location, she said.
Music Group member and senior Geoff Hutchinson said he thought the tickets would sell out, but not tomorrow.
By 9 p.m. Monday, the line had reached the corner behind Sarratt Cinema, with approximately 200 people having been in line at some point during the night.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m. for Vanderbilt students and 3 p.m. for the general public at the Sarratt Box Office. By Tuesday evening, floor seats for the concerts had sold out. Other tickets are still available. Students can buy one ticket each for $40, and general admission ticket prices range from $55 to $95 depending on seat level.
