Dear Editor:

Frannie Boyle, actually you and I are very different.  I believe that conservatives aren’t necessarily stupid people, but most stupid people are conservatives.  The reason this is the case is that most stupid people are selfish, and unfortunately this character trait is what the conservative media in this country take pride in, and boast about, which has given conservatism undue prominence in this great country.

A solid example is your view on health care in America:  “Healthcare is a scarce resource right now and whichever way you roll the dice, someone’s not going to get what they need.”  This is not a game, and real people die every day because of views like this.

People like you are the reason that George Bush came to power and stayed there.  People like you are why we let George Bush spend 3 trillion dollars on an illegal unnecessary war when we could have used these resources to guarantee universal healthcare for everyone, completely overhaul our education system, AND meaningfully begin the process of shifting the entire world to solar power and renewable energies.  People like you are why we came so perilously close to being governed by Sarah Palin.

You say that most conservatives would rather focus on the care itself and on ways to make it more available in the future.  Actually, most conservatives like yourself would rather focus on arguing why current efforts to improve healthcare  – the most meaningful of this and previous generations – won’t work, instead of proposing viable alternative solutions.  ‘Because we are in a recession and cannot afford it right now’ is a pathetic excuse and you should be ashamed of yourself for advancing this argument.

“People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt people who are doing it.”  When you get home tonight, print that quote and hang it up on the inside of your closet.  And while you’re up there, hang up this quote too:  “What would Jesus do?”  As you write your next column, examine them both closely.

No, you and I are very different.  In fact the narrow, self-centered, unenlightened drivel from you and your kind actively makes America a worse off place.  A more dangerous place – economically, morally, and militarily.
