A look around the rest of the Southeastern Conference over the weekend.

No. 4 LSU 20, No. 18 Georgia 13

After trading touchdowns with No. 18 Georgia in the final minutes, a 33-yard touchdown run by Charles Scott put No. 4 LSU on top for good. Georgia looked to be in control after taking a 13-12 lead on a Joe Cox touchdown pass to A.J. Green with 1:09 left in the game. Two plays later, however, Scott plunged into the line of scrimmage, bounced off a would-be tackler and went the remaining 30 yards untouched.

No. 3 Alabama 38, Kentucky 20

Crucial mistakes doomed Kentucky in its upset bid against the No. 3 Crimson Tide. Leading by a mere point, Alabama drove down the field to score with under a minute left in the half. On the first play of the ensuing drive for the Wildcats, the ball was punched out of wide receiver Derrick Locke’s hands and returned 45 yards for a deflating touchdown by Alabama’s Courtney Upshaw.

Auburn 26, Tennessee 22

A fourth quarter offensive explosion was not enough for the Vols, as Auburn continued its under-the-radar undefeated streak by picking up an important conference win. After being held to under 200 yards and six points through the first three quarters, Tennessee got an unexpected show of marksmanship from Jonathan Crompton, but it would prove to be too little, too late.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Alabama’s win marked the first time since 1979 that the Crimson Tide have eclipsed the 30-point mark in each of its first five games.
  • Steve Spurrier improved to 38-0 all-time against non-BCS conference teams.
  • Arkansas and Texas A&M renewed their rivalry — the “Southwest Classic” — with their first match up since 1991 at the new Cowboys Stadium.
  • Auburn’s win gave coach Gene Chizik just his third-ever conference win. Chizik was a paltry 2-14 against Big XII foes as head coach at Iowa State.
  • Mississippi State’s loss to No. 25 Georgia Tech dropped the Bulldogs to 3-25 against top-25 opponents since 2002.
