Vanderbilt and Army do battle today at 11 A.M. at West Point as both teams attempt to get back to .500 on the season. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports and aired on the radio on 104.5 FM.
The Commodores (2-3, 0-3 Southeastern Conference) have lost three of four since a season-opening win over Western Carolina, with all three defeats coming at the hands of conference foes.
The Black Knights (2-3) have lost two in a row, falling to Iowa State and Tulane.
The teams have met seven times, with Vanderbilt leading the series 4-3. The Commodores won the last meeting, also in West Point, in 1991, routing the Black Knights by a score of 41-10.
Non-conference, no problem: As much as the Commodores have struggled in SEC games, only mustering a total of 19 points in the three losses, they have been dominant against non-conference competition this season.
In wins over Western Carolina and Rice, Vanderbilt has outscored the Catamounts and the Owls a combined 81-17 and never trailed.
Stormin' Norman: David Namm, a contributor for Vanderbilt University Athletics as well as the Hustler, penned an article about freshman tailback Warren Norman, who has provided a spark in the Commodore running game and has scored three touchdowns on the season.

A pass on passing: As a practicer of the unique triple option offense, Army rarely passes the ball, to the tune that the team ranks 120th, dead last, in the nation in passing yards per game at 68.2.
The Commodores rank 114th out of 120 with 127.2. Despite the passing struggles, there has been no indication that redshirt sophomore quarterback Larry Smith will lose his hold on the starting job.
