Who knows where it came from, but the Commodores gamed the 11th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the first half, putting 28 points on the board and heading into the lockers with a tie ballgame.
Warren Norman became the first player in Vanderbilt history and only the second player in SEC history to run three kick returns back for a touchdown in a season. Willie Gault did it for Tennessee in 1980, and Norman did it tonight with an 80-yard return in the second quarter.
Outside of the kick return, the Commodores have looked sharp on offense -- a rarity this season.
Larry Smith left the game in the first quarter after pulling his hamstring. He is unlikely to return. Mackenzi Adams replaced him and has racked up 82 yards on 5-8 passing. He also cost the Commodores big-time, however, with a fumble on Vandy's own 22 to put the Jackets in quick and decisive scoring position.
Jackets running back put a touchdown on the board seconds later with two quick rushes for 22 yards. He's been a terror on the Vanderbilt secondary so far, with 117 yards on 14 carries in the first half.
Still, just when Georgia Tech started to pull away 28-21, Vanderbilt roared back with the Norman return and a brilliant 62-yard touchdown rush by Zac Stacy to tie things up.
