Vanderbilt University is one of dozens of instutitions with total costs exceeding $50,000.
The Chronicle of Higher Education has released a list of the 58 private colleges and universities that cost more than $50,000 for tuition, fees, room and board for the 2009-10 school year. According to the Chronicle, there were only five schools that cost that much in the 2008-2009 school year.
Vanderbilt University was listed as 15th on this list, with its cost totaling $51,228. Sarah Lawrence College was first ($55,788), Landmark College was second ($53,900), Georgetown University was third ($52,161) and New York University was fourth ($51,993).
The Chronicle article references that many of these schools do offer financial aid to the point where some students will not pay these full prices, but many will.
Six years ago, two schools cost more then $40,000, and now there are 224 institutions costing more than that.
