There are definite perks to having a figure in which your legs make up 80% of your body: It takes you fewer steps to get where you are going, your silhouette is something fierce, and, most importantly, they are the perfect canvas for the array of patterned tights that have recently surfaced.
As it becomes colder and we are forced to cover our washboard abs and put the bikini in storage, we reach an epiphany. No matter how cute that off-the-shoulder dress is, it is still 32 degrees outside and our body is begging for warmth. We don’t want to be that girl: The girl who will forsake all sanity and abandon her coat in mid-November just to display her cute, but thin, short-sleeved shirt. She is freezing. She is miserable. It is because of this that we give into winter and cover up our adorable, albeit thin, shirts. Fortunately for us, all hope is not lost. In exchange for covering up the top half of our bodies, patterned tights have emerged to allow us the best of both worlds. We can still wear our sexy mini-skirts and adorable dresses without freezing our legs off. Patterned tights are multi-purpose and therefore amazing. Not only can you find hundreds of patterns, colors, and textures of tights, but they also shield your legs from the winter wind that is sure to come. A simple black dress covered by a simple black pea coat is classic, but add a pair of funky patterned tights and instantly become a fashionista. Paired with my favorite Steve Madden suede pumps and a simple black mini-skirt, a set of patterned tights is the perfect addition. My favorite places to pick up these cute leg coverings are Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe, where you can get tights for as little as $5. JoyofSocks.com is a website dedicated to providing the most original tights in the market and is also one of my favorite shopping spots. Isn’t it marvelous when fashion and practicality unite as one and we are not forced to choose one over the other? This winter, don’t be that girl. It’s possible to have the best of both worlds.
