With winter winds quickly dissuading all girls from grabbing skirts, shorts and leggings, the eye candy appeal of going to class has dropped significantly. Walking into a classroom filled with baggy sweatpants, boyfriend jeans, and coats dropping to the calf is demoralizing, and makes talking about accounting principles even more torturous. The reason why women feel like they can get away with dressing like the Amish in a city where snow touches the ground once a year perplexes me. But, there is a bright spot in these now dark days: skinny jeans. Half spandex, half denim, these jeans have the shape of leggings without the question of class. If you did a side-by-side between the two, I would guess that both would be equally form-fitting and flattering to those with the right body type to pull it off. Skinny jeans not only represent a classy way to maintain a display of your form-fitting physique, but also give a sense of texture, drawing the eye toward it as opposed to a monochromatic look of black leggings. Jeans match everything, too: from a $300 top to a $9 sorority American Apparel tee supporting one of thirty sorority philanthropies in the past two weeks. While winter can be a painful experience with finals, the cold and early nights, skinny jeans remind us that spring is coming.
