Men’s Tennis defeats Northwestern, 6-1

Junior Alex Zotov won his seventh consecutive singles match, and the No. 48 Commodores improved to 5-2 in duals play on the season with a 6-1 victory over Northwestern on Friday at Currey Tennis Center. The 38th-ranked Wildcats earned their lone point after Sidarth Balaji defeated 71st-ranked singles player Vijay Paul, 6-4, 6-4, but Vanderbilt rallied on the strength of straight-set wins by Adam Baker, Bryant Salcedo and No. 29 Ryan Lipman to earn the victory.

Women’s Swimming falls to Tulane

In its final dual meet before the Southeastern Conference Championships in Athens, Ga., the Vanderbilt women’s swimming team lost to Tulane, 183-89, in New Orleans, La. Freshmen Amy Salce won the 1000-yard freestyle, and Sarah Lynch placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Commodores, whose record dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the SEC. Sophomore Laura Dillon’s victory in the 200-yard breaststroke rounded out the Commodores’ three first-place finishes on the day.

Women’s bowling rebounds

After an unusual series of events last weekend, the Commodores righted the ship in a big way Saturday, vaulting their way to second place heading into the final day at the McKendree Baker Challenge. With superstar Josie Earnest sitting out a few games to get her teammates additional playing time, other Vanderbilt stalwarts stepped up, especially Amanda Halter. The junior bowled six consecutive strikes in three separate games, giving the Commodores a much-needed spark. Their 5,014 pins through Saturday trailed only NAIA school Weber International, who had 5,047 pins.
