Student Life Center DisciplesFirst is organizing an unforgettable evening to help orphans in Uganda. On December the 4th, Angela Namatovu will share her life and work with the Vanderbilt Community. The evening will be stamped with great performances showcasing student groups and local artists boasting a great diversity of musical genres: **Dave Barnes** 8:30PM Meet Angela:
She is a 26 year old native of Uganda. Because both of Angela's parents died by the time she was fifteen, she went to live on the streets. Despite her grim circumstances, Angela decided that she would become somebody. Against all odds, she graduated from college. Having a college degree created many opportunities for Angela. She chose to serve the children of her country. On Christmas Day 2001, Angela began reaching out to the street children of Uganda. She has experienced first-hand what these children go through. She knows their struggles, and she understands the children's emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, and financial needs. She worked very hard to find the families of those who still had them, and to find food and shelter for those who did not.
Mercy Home for Children began with eight young children. These precious ones began to bring their friends (also orphans from the street) home to find love, food, and shelter. This amazing woman could not say no, and her numbers began to grow exponentially. She now has 100 children between the ages of four and seventeen who call her "mom." These children sing and perform, as well as make bricks to survive and have enough money to eat.
