For all the guys out there who take issue with the Plan B pill, the time will soon be right for you to take matters into your own hands. Researchers at Edinburgh University's Center for Reproductive Biology have found a way to suppress daily sperm production while maintaining normal testosterone levels.

As a result of these findings, Organon, a pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands, has developed a pill set to go on the market in the near future. The pill has proven to be 100 percent effective in preliminary clinical trials, which is far better than the effectiveness of female oral contraceptives (92-99.7%), male condoms (85-98%), and withdrawal (73-96%).

This new pill contains desogestrel, a synthetic hormone that is the main component in the female pill, as well as testosterone. The combination blocks the production of sperm while maintaining male characteristics and sex drive. It must be taken daily, just like the female contraceptive pill.

In clinical trials, the participants' sperm count dropped to zero (hence the 100 percent effectiveness) after use, and returned to pre-study levels in ALL participants within 16 weeks after the trial.

More recent news rumors the pill to be a single dose that can be taken a few hours before having sex to affect the contraction of the muscles that control ejaculation. This wouldn't affect sperm production or interfere with performance or orgasm sensation; the result is simply dry ejaculation.

Whatever researchers really do end up developing in the next 5-10 years, I'm still not sure that I would trust a guy to have taken his pills. Half the boys I know can't remember birthdays or things I said minutes before... However, it would provide an option for men who wanted some control in the arena of contraception.
