NEWS: Vanderbilt Biodiesel Initiative up for $25,000 grant

Students can vote for winner of the mtvU GE Ecomagination Challenge online

Vanderbilt Biodiesel Initiative is one of 10 finalists in the first-ever mtvU GE Ecomagination Challenge, which recognizes students who come up with innovative and viable approaches to greening their campuses.

The Vanderbilt team, comprised of students led by civil and environmental engineering professor Jim Clarke, was selected as a finalist from more than 100 teams who submitted plans for projects to make their campuses more environmentally friendly.

The goal of Vanderbilt Biodiesel Initiative is to "create a self-sufficient, sustainable, student-run biodiesel production system at Vanderbilt University." (Read the team's project proposal here.)

Students can vote online for the project they think has the greatest potential environmental impact.

Student votes, along with input from mtvU and GE, will determine the winning team, which will receive a $25,000 grant to bring its project to life and be featured on mtvU and mtvU.com.

The winner's school will also receive an mtvU Earth Day Concert with a performance by Angels and Airwaves.
