Tonight Vanderbilt senior Jeremy Walker appeared on "Jeopardy," taking a close second.

Walker made his classmates proud as he answered 10 questions correctly in the first round, ending the round with $5,800 and tied for first place. He also took the "daily double" in the first round, garnering $1,000 for the question.

In the second round, Double Jeopardy, Walker answered eight questions correctly, ending with $13,400.

He was tied for third as he entered into Final Jeopardy, and the category was "Word Origins." After writing down his wager, the clue was revealed: "Well known to 'Jeopardy' fans, this 10-letter word originally meant a stew of many different ingredients." All the contestants scribbled answers down, and none looked completely certain.

Walker's answer was revealed first: "Hodgepodge." This was the correct anwer, and he had wagered $12,399 in the round, taking him into first place with a total of $25,799. The next contestant answered incorrectly, and his total went down to $10. It looked like Walker was going to triumph, but the third contestant answered correctly, topping Walker with a total of $29,201 for a difference of just $3,402.

Walker, however, still looked happy at the end of the show, possibly because he was still taking home a prize of $2,000.
