Speakers committee says theywill not invite Sigler again
Jamie Lynn Sigler, known for her roll on "The Sopranos," canceled her speaking engagement for the second time. The Vanderbilt Univeristy Speakers Committee scheduled Sigler to speak Feb. 15 to tell students about her battle with an eating disorder.
"What happened was she ended up having another commitment for HBO and as a result couldn't come speak," said Nate Meltzer, outgoing co-head of the Speakers Committee.
The Speakers Committee held a meeting Tuesday night to discuss how to respond.
"We got the call about two weeks before the event. That's just a risk you take with celebrities or politicians," Meltzer said. "You never know when they're going to have another obligation and where their priorities are going to lie."
Meltzer said the committee will decide at the meeting what to do next.
"We had pressure to come to a decision quickly, but we're not in a position to do that," said Meltzer. "I know for a fact we won't be having Jamie Lynn again. It still remains what direction we will be taking."
Meltzer remains open to student input on the committee's next step.
"We're really open to suggestions, especially from the student body. We are willing to take suggestions," said Meltzer. "We try to keep our fingers on the pulse of the student attitude."
