I enjoy watching The Colbert Report sometimes, but lately I've been a bit bothered by how similar the show's theme song is to The Daily Show's theme song. Anyone else feel the same way?

It's a common practice in composition . . .
TCR is a spinoff of TDS so it makes sense that the two theme songs would be similar; you might notice similar practices in film musicals wherein there is an overture that combines variations on the songs to come.
In addition, while I do not watch the show, TDS's theme song undoubtedly holds strong connotations to its audience. Why would a savvy producer want to throw away those benefits just as he reinvents the wheel?

I think what really distinguishes Colbert's song from the Daily Show is the screaming eagle at the end. That's my absolute favorite part.
Actually, I'm starting to feel that TDS's song just doesn't quite measure up any more. It just lacks that special "something" at the end.
