WHAT IS HPV AND WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW?

(A Discussion about HPV, the vaccine and more)

Gender Matters (of the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center), Vanderbilt Feminists, Planned Parenthood, VU Medical Center and Vanderbilt Student Health are collaborating to host a panel discussion about the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is the name of a group of viruses of which more than 30 are sexually transmitted. Some of the “high risk” virus types of HPV can cause abnormal Pap tests and may also lead to cancer of the cervix (among others). “Low risk” viruses types of HPV can cause mild Pap test abnormalities or genital warts. There is an HPV vaccine available for girls and women. At this event we will have panelists from Student Health, Planned Parenthood and the Medical Center to discuss HPV, the vaccine and to answer questions. We hope you will join us for this informative session and help us create awareness about HPV (and the vaccine).

Other Information: We will have informational flyers and pamphlets available at the session. We are NOT providing lunch, but feel free to bring your lunch with you to the session.

Date: February 28th; 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Location: Sarratt 189; Vanderbilt University
