Here are some of the top stories from the social news site Digg.com for the past week.  They are roughly listed in chronological order.

  1. Check out this hilarious 1993 documentary about this new computer web called “the internet”…maybe it’s just a passing fad…
  2. For all you iPod, digital camera, USB thumb drive toting people out there…. wait…that’s just about everybody! So listen up! A company called GadgetTrak offers new free service that tracks stolen USB gadgets. When the device is stolen you log into the server, flag it as stolen and the next time the device is plugged into a computer it sends the owner of the device info about that system like IP address, location, username and computer name and more.   3. This week is going to be a busy week for most people around campus so if you’re in need of a break check out this article. It details 13 places on the internet to watch TV for free!
  4. Check it out! A Nashville man bought an original copy of the Declaration of Independence at a local thrift store for $2.48! The copy is one of 200 that John Quincy Adams in 1820. The copy is valued at ~$125,000. Read more here.

Our last few entries are actually all photo pages – the past week of Digg has seen quite a few amazing photo submissions so I’d thought I’d share some of them with you.

  1. This is quite possibly the biggest sinkhole I have ever seen. Apparently it swallowed up several houses in Guatemala City.
  2. Construction has begun on the Tallest Bridge in the World in France that will stand 984ft (300m) tall when completed. That’s higher than the Eiffel Tower!
  3. One of Digg’s most popular photographers Trey Ratcliff recently took a trip to the abandoned Russian town of Pripyat – the closest city to the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. These pictures remind me of Silent Hill…
  4. Here are some moving photos that some say “define the world”… really interesting to look at!
