A release on Collegiate Presswire states that the RIAA sent 20 pre -itigation letters to Vanderbilt today. These letters are intended to warn Vanderbilt and each student that they have been targeted for lawsuits.
The release states, "Each pre-litigation settlement letter informs the school of a forthcoming copyright infringement suit against one of its students or personnel and requests that university administrators forward that letter to the appropriate network user."
The purpose of the letter is to encourage the targeted students to settle for a lower amount of money than going through th legal process of being sued. The students who receive the letter can go to http://www.p2plawsuits.com to settle.
