Hey Everyone,
I have a new "Why I Relay" since I know you all have been anxiously awaiting it. Heather Lillemoe is part of the Relay For Life Committee with me at Vanderbilt and she is also a great contact for the Kappa Relay team. Here is why she relays:
"I Relay not only because I know cancer is something that affects and changes everyone's lives, but especially because it has affected mine. My sophomore year [of high school], my best friend's father had cancer and we slowly watched him get sicker and sicker. Eventually, when my best friend was out of town with all of my other friends and I was stuck playing basketball at home over winter break, the news came that he was getting really sick and so my friend had to fly home to say goodbye. Although I had been so upset that I couldn't go on the trip, I then knew that there had been a reason, because I could be there for my friend through everything. I was with her for his death, his funeral, for everything. I think of how much this affected and changed me and and then can only imagine what it did to her, losing her father at the age of 16. I am relaying for my friend, for her family, and for anyone else who has been deeply affected by cancer."
~Heather
Heather shows the power of friendship in "why she relays". She is working hard so that other people do not have to lose such a close relative at such a young age. So come out and support Relay.
