Director of Crime Prevention Andrew Atwood sent an e-mail to Vanderbilt students Tuesday morning informing them that a rape occurred near Elliston Place and Louise Avenue on April 2 at approximately 9 pm.

According to the e-mail, the victim, a student, reported to the Vanderbilt Police Department that while walking to campus she was approached by a suspect she believes to be homeless. After asking the victim for money, the suspect assaulted her in an alley.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and was last seen wearing dark clothes and jeans. He is described as a black male, 30-40 years old, and about 6’3”. He had a bulky appearance, black hair and brown eyes.

Due to the fact that the incident occurred off-campus, Metro Nashville Police department will be conducting the investigation.
