Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Recycling (SPEAR) announced Kissam Quad as the winner of its Freshman Energy Conservation Contest. The contest, which took place March 18-31, was a pilot program for the club's sustainability and conservation initiative.

Kissam Quad decreased its energy use by 7 percent by employing techniques such as turning off unnecessarily lights, washing clothes in cold water and unplugging charging devices not in use.

In recognition of their green efforts, residents of Kissam Quad will receive a pizza party with Ben and Jerry's ice cream and a massage therapist April 15.
