Relay For Life: "Why I Relay," Alexa Papaila

Hi All,

I can't believe it, Relay is just two weeks away. Everything is going really well and we, all of us on the planning committee, are getting really excited for all the great entertainment we have planned and all of the money we have raised. Once we have a set schedule of events and activities I will be sure to let you all know so that you can figure out which parts of the great night you want to attend. Remember also that it's not too late to sign up and register to join an existing team or start your own, you can register a team up until the event!!

I have another "Why I Relay" so I will get to the point,

"I participate in Relay For Life for many reasons. I grew up in a town that united annually at this event to raise money to combat the terrible misfortunes of cancer. Every spring, my family and friends would go to the track and spend the night, pulling all nighters, playing football, watching the bands, and walking for our loved ones. The memories I have from home are more than enough to make me want to keep Relay in my life. Above all, however, is the purpose of the walk - it's probably safe to say everyone knows somebody who has had cancer, or at least, knows a friend or family member that has been affected by someone with cancer. My great-grandmother recently passed away after fighting cancer, and most of my older relataives are survivors of some type of colon, breast, skin, or pancreatic cancer. Aside from my family, I've watched 4 teachers struggle with cancer (2 of which have since died). My best friend all through middle/high school lost her mom in the 8th grade to breast cancer. That was probably the hardest one-we were 13. her mom was gone. One of my other best friends friends mother was just diagnosed as terminal last week...I walk in honor of alll those that my friends and family have lost or had to watch struggle through."

Alexa has been a wonderful help on the planning committee and we appreciate her sharing why she relays with us. Her story just proves the incredibly large number of people who are affected by this disease in some way or another and we need to keep them in mind, and walk for them, for a cure, for hope.

As usual email us or check out our website.

Thanks
