The following is an e-mail from Virginia Tech sophomore Amy Sindall to Hustler reporter Katie DePaola.

"I just got back from the candlelight vigil. I can't even begin to describe all of the emotions there. I arrived early with some friends and before we knew it, the entire drill field, a huge open space in the middle of our campus, was filled. Everyone remained silent during the entire vigil as a few people spoke. I was around all guys, and a few of them were crying. Most people were just silent and taking it all in. I felt like it was almost a closure in a sense for some people. We needed this last time to mourn and be sad together. One of the speakers was the recent SGA president and Homecoming King. He narrated the entire vigil and at the end said this concludes the vigil, but we could remain as long as we wanted. No one moved. Everyone stayed there for at least 20 more minutes. As our candles were raised high in the air, someone broke out into "Amazing Grace" and everyone picked up on it. Minutes later, we sang the national anthem. During the fall at football games, after the national anthem is played we always break out into "Let's Go....HOKIES." We did the exact same thing here. It was an amazing and chilling feeling. Then we said our cheer, which most people haven't recited since freshman orientation. I can't put into words how amazing it was to see all of the Hokie pride out there. We were all out there to mourn, but at the same time we were out there to be together and show the campus, the community, the nation and world that we will move on from this. It's not going to be the end all be all for Virginia Tech. I think that was the main thing we showed at the vigil. The VT community is so strong, and with the help and support from everyone out there, we will get through this tragedy."
