UPDATE: The Tennessean today reported that Chancellor Gordon Gee is expected to announce that he is taking a job as President of Ohio State University at a 3 p.m. press conference.
The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch today reported that Chancellor Gordon Gee will leave Vanderbilt to return to Ohio State University as president, a position he held from 1990 to 1997.
According to The Dispatch, "Sources say Gee has agreed to return as Ohio State's president and informed the Vanderbilt University board of trustees of his decision this morning. The Ohio State board is expected to vote on the choice on Thursday."
InsideVandy this afternoon left a message for Vanderbilt University's spokesperson Mike Schoenfeld and has unsuccessfully tried to contact the office of University Board Chairman Martha Ingram. InsideVandy will update this story as more information becomes available.
Previous statements from Schoenfeld and Ingram left the possible move questionable. And Gee said on June 26, “My commitment to Vanderbilt is unwavering and unshakable. … I am honored to serve as Vanderbilt's chancellor and plan to do so for a long time to come."
