Interim chancellor history

Vanderbilt finds itself in an unusual position this year, appointing an interim chancellor for the second time in 134 years.
Only Madison Sarratt, of Sarratt Student Center fame, has held the temporary position, between the terms of Oliver Carmichael and Harvie Branscomb in 1945.
His tenure lasted just four months because Branscomb needed time to finish up his term as Dean of Divinity at Duke University before moving to Nashville.
