Though slyly egotistical, Kanye West seemed to be able to predict the shame and humiliation that would occur hours later when he said, "I can’t believe she would perform. She hasn’t had a hit record in years." Britney Spears dared to perform her newest single, "Gimme More," to open Sunday night's reputable Video Music Awards on MTV, but her sloppy dancing and deplorable lip-syncing have everyone talking. Shots into the audience revealed fellow artists such as 50 Cent with a look of surprise on his face and Rihanna giggling about the hideous performance with a friend. Following the dismal performance of "Gimme More," a source reported to Us Weekly that Spears was spotted "crying badly [backstage]. She's devastated. She was really nervous and knows she screwed up." One of the most falsely reported accusations is that Britney overheard that comedian Sarah Silverman was going to make fun of her two kids, which apparently enraged her and led to her dreadful performance. "There was no MTV script approval," says a show insider. "The only person who knew what Sarah was going to say was Sarah. When she rehearse she even said, 'Joke. Joke. Joke. 50 Cent. Britney Spears. Etc.' And she only mentioned the names of the people that she was going to talk about. No one ever heard her material before it aired." I suppose no one will really understand just why Britney destroyed what little shred of talent she had left with the horrendous show, but I suppose the best analysis would be to say that she is not ready to make that overhyped "comeback." "It's Britney, b*tch," would insinuate that she's back with both guns blazing in the song, but the performance screams quite the opposite. On a side note, Silverman's comments that followed the performance were deliciously received, but she should not have made so many low blows, including, "Have you seen Britney’s kids? Oh my god, they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see! They are as cute as the hairless vagina they came out of.” Disgusting. Boo on you, Silverman. Can't you see the woman is crying out for help? On the other end of the spectrum, Tommy Lee wrangled with fellow Pam Anderson ex, Kid Rock, during Alicia Keys' performance. To "The Insider," he states, "I was minding myself and then he goes and punches me on the cheek. I was trying to be the bigger man, but he was acting childish." Lee claims that Rock came and punched him for no good reason. "[I] was ready to go in the alley and kick his ass. I was about to put Kid in the emergency room when security grabbed me," says Tommy. "They said, 'If you move, we will break your arms.'" On Kid Rock's motivation, he joked, "This is what people do when they have sh*tty albums and their careers are going down the drain." Sources who witnessed the event agree that Kid Rock slapped Tommy Lee across the face, but they attest that it started because Tommy kept antagonizing Kid throughout the night. When Kid could not continue to ignore him, he agitatedly slapped him, and then security threw them both out, but Kid was allowed to return later on. Kid Rock was cited by Las Vegas police for misdemeanor battery. This whole event is just ridiculous. So what that Pam has enormous breasts and no personality!? She is not with either of you anymore! CONCLUSION: What a night for those aforementioned sh*tty albums and careers going down the drain! Huzzah!
