After sacking Smelley and forcing a fumble (recovered by SC barely), sophomore CB Darlon Spead was down on the field, he was helped off the field and went into the locker room. Alex Washington fumbled the ensuing punt after a seven yard gain, but Vandy recovered it. That was the game's third fumble with five minutes still to play in the first quarter.
