Both the Vanderbilt men's and women's teams enjoyed success on the hardwood last season.

For the men, the journey was a long and winding road of good wins (from Foster's tip-in to beat Tennessee to crushing No. 1 Florida to sweeping Kentucky to the double-overtime thriller against Washington State), not-so-good losses (Furman, anyone?) and an uncalled travel (where are you, Jeff Green?) in the final seconds of the biggest game.

For the women, winning the SEC Tournament provided the highlight of the year, which will have to be used to block out the memory of a disappointing second-round NCAA loss to Bowling Green.

Now begins a new journey. Every season has its own story. Here are 25 reasons to watch Vanderbilt basketball:

25. Who is going to replace the scoring of Derrick Byars, particularly off the dribble?

24. Could it be Shan Foster, coming off a nice showing for the U.S. Pan American team?

23. Could it be A.J. Ogilvy, the first Vanderbilt center in years to have a full set of post moves?

22. Could it be a wildcard? After all, Byars' scoring average climbed five points his senior year. That means you, Alex Gordon, Jermaine Beal and George Drake.

21. But the beauty of Vanderbilt's system is its team-oriented style, which may mean points 22-25 become moot. Team basketball is always a good watch.

20. On the women's side, can Tina Wirth handle her new leadership role?

19. Tough-as-nails point guard Dee Davis graduated. Can Meredith Marsh, Jess Mooney and Jence Rhoads replace her production?

18. But enough questions; here are some things we do know about both teams. For starters, Ogilvy is the projected 16th pick in next year's draft, according to nbadraft.net.

17. Foster is a second-round pick on the same site. And Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Florida all bring rosters with NBA prospects to Memorial Gym this year.

16. Mooney in the open floor is just fun to watch.

15. Drake in the open floor is just fun to watch.

14. Gordon is fearless. Add to that the urgency of a senior season, and the feisty point guard might have his banner year.

13. Sure, all fans will miss Dan Cage's hustle. Darshawn McClellan, however, will make fans forget.

12. The women are due to beat Pat Summit, Candace Parker and the Lady Vols, aren't they?

11. By the way, the new court looks really cool. That should get you to at least a couple games.

10. If last year proved anything, for both teams, it's that anything can happen once that round orange ball is tossed in the air. Do you really want to miss any of that?

9. Alan Metcalfe scoring 10 points in Monday's exhibition shouldn't be overlooked. The big guy seems ready to be a regular contributor.

8. The men seek to continue their recent dominance of Kentucky.

7. Meanwhile, the women are out to prove that they will be fine without Davis, Caroline Williams and Carla Thomas.

6. Liz Sherwood is poised for a monster senior season.

5. Both squads have great coaches, and who can forget when Kevin Stallings showed Joakim Noah who was boss?

4. While the fine keeps increasing, nothing beats storming the court after a big victory.

3. In the middle of winter, what's better than rooting for two potential NCAA Tournament teams?

2. You don't need to wear a dress or a shirt and tie to fit in.

1. Two words: Memorial Magic.
