Vanderbilt will conduct a test of its severe-weather sirens Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m.
The university normally conducts testing at noon to coincide with Metro Nashville's tests.
However, testing will take place two hours earlier to assess the Vanderbilt sirens independent of the background noise of the Metro sirens and to avoid a conflict with noon start time for the basketball game, said Pat Cunningham, captain of emergency planning for Vanderbilt University Police Department.
It will also allow an opportunity to better assess the volume at which the Metro sirens are heard on campus.
Metro will still conduct the test of their sirens at noon and those sirens will likely be audible on campus. The city has sirens in Centennial Park and in Fannie Mae Dee Park which can be heard in proximity to campus.
