MEN'S BASKETBALL: Vandy @ Tennessee Blog 1/17

1:17 Remaining; UT 74, VU 60

This one will fall into the L column for the Commodores once again. Vandy has a quick turnaround to play LSU on Saturday, and their offense needs to find their rhythm again. The Commodores will score their fewest points of the season again today after doing the same at Kentucky Saturday. Four Vols are in double figures, and A.J. and Shan finished with over 10 for the Dores.

3:36 Remaining; UT 68, VU 57

The threes have stopped falling and the teams have been trading baskets for the last three minutes. Stallings picked up a technical protesting a no-call on Ogilvy (legitimate argument) with 5:20 left, and foul calls have been spotty the entire second half. Vols' ball up 11 with under four to play.

Attendance: 20,799

7:38 Remaining; UT 61, VU 53

The 3-point streak lives on, as Beal hit one with around 9:15 left in the game. McClellan and Foster have also hit for the Dores, who have cut the deficit to eight with a 15-2 run. Timeout Vols with just under eight minutes to go.

11:18 Remaining; UT 59, VU 38

Everything is unraveling for the Commodores as Chris Lofton is heating up from beyond the arc. Still no 3's yet, and the streak is in serious jeopardy.

15:48 Remaining; UT 45, VU 32

Vandy went inside early and often in the second half, drawing three fouls in the first 2:24 against Wayne Chism. Tennessee has five fouls already, but a three from JaJuan Smith just put the Vols back up by 13 after Vandy cut it to eight.

Halftime; UT 36, VU 23

The crowd is livid after the last nine fouls have been called against the Vols, but Vandy hasn't been converting all their free throws and still trails big at the half. Some eye-opening numbers; VU is 0-for-9 from three-point range, including four misses from Foster alone. Rebounds are even at 19; Vandy has 12 turnovers to UT's 10. The Vols are 5-for-14 from three-point range. Vandy is only 5-for-9 from the foul line despite UT's 10 fouls.

3:55 Remaining; UT 33 ,VU 18

Commodores take a timeout as Childress and Chism have just hit 3's (both are 6'9") to stretch the UT lead to 15. Shan has 7, including a couple of NBA-style fallaway jumpers, but otherwise absolutely nothing for the offense.

7;19 Remaining; UT 22, VU 15

Vandy's offense is really scuffling as UT's pressure defense has been really relentless in the last 4 minutes. No 3's yet this game and still nothing is coming easy in the post. Tyler Smith has scored 4 points and has some key rebounds for the Vols.

11:12 Remaining; VU 12, UT 10

A.J. Ogilvy just picked up his 2nd foul on an offensive rebound opportunity; he'll sit for most of the rest of the half. VU is really crashing the boards; McClellan and Walker both have putbacks on the offensive glass so far, and the Commodores are leading that battle 11-8. Tennessee has a nice rotation of big men with Wayne Chism, Brian Williams, and Ryan Childress, and Ogilvy is having trouble creating quality chances in the low post. Both teams are picking up the pace!

15:55 Remaining; VU 4, UT 2

Both teams are a little too pumped up to start, the adrenaline is leading to a few careless turnovers and missed shots. Neltner and Foster have the baskets for Vandy and Chism has a layup for UT. Vandy is even on the boards so far at 5-5. Ogilvy and Beal have early fouls.
