Vanderbilt snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing 92-76 win over LSU. The Commodores moved to 17-2, 2-2 in Southeastern Conference, while LSU lost its seventh straight to fall to 0-4 in the SEC, 7-11 overall.
Hot shooting in the second half propelled Vanderbilt to a big lead, and LSU never got close, with the Commodores at one point stretching the lead to 23 points. Seniors Shan Foster and Alex Gordon both connected on four 3-pointers and both scored 18 points to lead Vanderbilt. The Commodores had terrific offensive balance as all five starters ended up in double figures, including Ross Neltner who rebounded from two poor showings to match his season-high wth 16 points.
After a 3-21 shooting performance from beyond the arc against Tennessee, Vanderbilt shot 9-20 from the 3-point line and shot 49.2 percent from the field overall, a huge turnaround.
Despite LSU being probably the weakest team in the SEC, the importance of this victory can't be underestimated. The Commodores stopped the bleeding, so to speak, and showed everyone again why they're one of the most dangerous shooting teams in the country.
