Men’s Basketball vs. Auburn
Memorial Gym, 4 p.m.
TV: FSN
Vanderbilt returns home to face Auburn (12-7, 2-4 Southeastern Conference) after a disastrous two-game road swing where the Commodores were beaten soundly by Florida and Mississippi.
Luckily for Vanderbilt, Auburn is also mired in a slump. The Tigers have lost two straight, including one to lowly Louisiana State. The Commodores (17-4, 2-4 SEC) will be hungry for a win after their recent struggles, as well as to avenge last year’s 68-65 loss at Auburn in their SEC opener.
Junior guard Rasheem Barrett, who scored 22 points in last year’s win over Vanderbilt, leads Auburn with 14.2 points per game.
Sunday
Women’s Basketball at Georgia, 1:30 p.m.
Radio: 560 AM
The Commodores try for a regular-season sweep of no. 17 Georgia when they travel to Athens on Sunday. Vanderbilt (15-6, 4-2 SEC) beat the then-11th ranked Bulldogs on Jan. 17 at Memorial Gym, 67-59. The Commodores went up 16-0 in that game and didn’t look back.
Vanderbilt is currently fourth in the SEC standings. Another win over the Bulldogs (16-4, 3-2 SEC) couldn’t hurt.
Georgia’s All-American senior forward Tasha Humphrey, averaging a team-leading 16.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, will be a defensive challenge for Vanderbilt’s frontcourt.
Friday-Sunday
Bowling at Arkansas State
Vanderbilt will get back on the lanes Friday through Sunday at Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational.
The field in Jonesboro is a large one, and instead of a true round-robin, the bracket will be determined by a pre-event draw with the winning team determined by total pinfall. Nine of the nation's top-10 rated teams are in the tournament.
Vanderbilt will travel juniors Karen Grygiel, Michelle Peloquin and Tara Kane, sophomores Josie Earnest and Ashley Belden and freshman Ellen Morrison.
