Former Vanderbilt star David Price was the National Player of the Year and No. 1 pick in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, but his most recent award may be the most fulfilling.
Price was honored by Nashville Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Tuesday for his off-the-field accomplishments. Nashville RBI executive director Reggie Whittemore presented Price with the first annual "Butch McCord Student of the Game" award at the Nashville Children's Theatre.
"As an outstanding student and athlete at Vanderbilt University, David Price has been an exemplary role model for the youth of Nashville," Whittemore said. "He is a person of high character, and I can't imagine a better person to present with the first annual Butch McCord Student of the Game award."
Price, who has received virtually every award possible for his on-the-field achievements, said the award from Nashville RBI is especially meaningful.
"There are many reasons why this award means a lot to me," Price said. "To receive the award following a play on a hero like Jackie Robinson, and to have it named after a man like Butch McCord, makes this very special. I'm proud that Nashville RBI has recognized me for setting a positive example for kids."
