CULTURE: Talking about the elephant in the room

Wait — I thought we couldn’t say those words.

In an age of political correctness, using racial slurs to destroy them may seem like a roundabout method to toleration. However, three University of California, Los Angeles graduates have been performing this hot-button discussion on the road for five years now, fighting on the frontlines of the assault on racism across the country.

The show combines theater, hip-hop, stand-up comedy, slam poetry and even true-life stories to create a raucous 90-minute affair. While still in college, Miles Gregley, Rafael Agustin and Allan Axibal came together in common frustration over rampant typecasting in their acting careers. After brainstorming for months, they penned this incredible comedic performance confronting racism through the aptly titled “N*GGER WETB*CK CH*NK.”

They get it all on the table by utilizing racial slurs, stereotypes and everything in between. However, they contend that the only way to have an honest conversation about racism is to know what you’re talking about.

Although a bit of controversy follows the show, the three performers have won over audiences while performing across the country for years. Don’t miss their performance this Friday for not only an honest but a witty discussion on the problems and solutions to modern racism.
