CRIME ALERT: Robbery


A campus-wide e-mail was sent today alerting the Vanderbilt community to a robbery that occured on April 13 near Rand Hall. The full text of the e-mail is as follows:

"It was reported to Vanderbilt Police Department that a robbery occurred at approximately 9:35 pm on April 13, 2008 near Rand Hall. A student reported she was walking by Rand Terrace when an unknown subject walked up to her, said “hi” to her, punched her in the eye and then grabbed her purse. Subject ran but dropped the purse a short distance later when he saw other people in the area.

Suspect Description: Male white, 6’2”, 150 -160 lbs., and thin build, mid-twenties, unshaven. The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jean shorts and possibly tennis shoes.

Lock residence hall room doors.
Secure all lower level windows.
Walk or jog in groups of three or more.
Avoid isolated or dark areas.
Travel with confidence and purpose.
Do not wear earphones while walking or jogging.
Know the locations of emergency phones.
Do not use ATMs at night.
Stay alert, and plan ahead for "What if...?"
