Sophomore Drew Hayes shut down the Memphis Tigers with a dominating display of power pitching to lead Vanderbilt to an 8-0 victory, its fourth in a row, Tuesday night in Jackson, TN.
Hayes struck out 12 batters in seven innings of work, allowing just two hits and walking one.
"It was pretty dominating for him," Coach Tim Corbin said of Hayes' performance.
Junior third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs, one estimated at 430 feet, and drove in three runs. Senior right fielder Dominic de la Osa, who recently became the school's all-time hits leader, also homered, his seventh of the year.

The Commodores (35-13, 14-9 Southeastern Conference) start their final homestand of the year tonight against Tennessee Tech at Hawkins Field before a huge three-game series against divsion-leading Georgia this weekend. Vanderbilt is currently in second place in the SEC East, three games behind the Bulldogs.
