The streaking LSU Tigers used two big innings to cruise to an 8-2 victory over Vanderbilt, snapping a 6-game winning streak for the Commodores in SEC Tournament play.
LSU (41-16-1) scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, and right fielder Derek Helenihi hit a three-run home run off Vanderbilt starter Caleb Cotham, who took the loss to fall to 7-5. The Tigers have won 18 straight games, while Vanderbilt has lost six of its last seven.
Designated hitter Parker Hanks hit a solo home run and had a sacrifice fly to provide the only Commodore runs. The top of the potent Vanderbilt lineup combined to go just 1-14.
Vanderbilt (38-19) plays South Carolina (38-20) on Friday at 3 p.m. CT in an elimination game.
