In an elimination game in the SEC Tournament, Vanderbilt came out on top.
Junior Nick Christiani pitched 6 1/3 effective innings, allowing just one run on five hits, and Vanderbilt (39-19) held off South Carolina to win 7-5. Christiani improved to 6-3 on the year.
Junior Pedro Alvarez and sophomore Andrew Giobbi hit two-run home runs, and junior Ryan Flaherty hit a two-run single.
Redshirt freshman closer Russell Brewer got the final four outs to earn his seventh save of the season.
Vanderbilt faces Ole Miss Saturday at 1o a.m. in another elimination game. The Commodores will have to beat the Rebels twice to reach the conference championship game.
