Attempting to stay ahead of the technology curve, Vanderbilt has announced the release of a version of the university's home page for use on an Apple iPhone.

Vanderbilt News Service's Office of Web Communications developed the technology, according to Campus Technology, making the school one of the first in the country to do so.

"More and more of our students, faculty and staff are using the iPhone to access the Internet," Melanie Moran, assistant director of the Vanderbilt News Service, told Campus Technology. "We created a version of the Vanderbilt Web site that takes advantage of the iPhone's powerful software and intuitive multi-touch interface when using some of our most-visited content and applications, such as Webmail and online directory."

The new version is optimized for iPhone use, and it includes content from both the university's YouTube channel and its iTunes U space.
