As reported by the Vanderbilt News Service, a new study has shown evidence that an individual's mental imagery can lead to a different perception of the external world.

Joel Pearson, lead author on the study and research associate in the department of psychology, said, "We found that imagery leads to a short-term memory trace that can bias future perception. This is the first research to definitively show that imagining something changes vision both while you are imagining it and later on."
