The VUPD used this latest violent incident as an illustration of why it is necessary to take simple precautions to stay safe on campus.
For example, students should keep residence hall doors locked, secure all lower level windows, walk or jog in groups of three or more, avoid isolated or dark areas, travel with confidence and purpose, do not wear earphones while walking or jogging, know the locations of emergency phones and do not use ATMs at night.
And always be aware of your surroundings.
